Fandom Auctions
Feb. 4th, 2012 01:52 pmI have two more podfics up for grabs at two separate auctions on DW. Both auctions need more participants. I didn't win any of my bids at
scarleteenfans , so I'm still itching to buy some podfic for a good cause! Come join in! (For those of you non-podfic people on my flist, there are plenty of other non-podfic options at both sites, too.)

fandom_helps is raising money to support Planned Parenthood.
Posting of Offers Ends: 11:59pm EST February 13
Bidding Begins: 12:01am EST February 14
Bidding Ends: 11:30pm EST February 21
I'm offering up to 5000 words of podfic for a single bidder, split between as many as 3 podfics. My offer is here.
fund_jcollins is raising money for the Jim Collins Foundation.
A quote from their Profile page: "The Jim Collins Foundation raises money to fund gender-confirming surgeries for those transgender people who need surgery to live a healthy life, but have no ability to pay for it themselves. We recognize that for those people who require surgery for a healthy gender transition, lack of access to surgery may result in hopelessness, depression, and sometimes, suicide. The Jim Collins Foundation is a community-based initiative promoting the self-determination and empowerment of all transgender people"
This comm looks like it was a little slow to get off the ground and may need some mod help (the mod is looking for co-mods), but it's an excellent cause, and I feel strongly about supporting it. There is no current end date for bidding, and as of this moment I'm the only person offering podfic. Y'all, if no one else offers any I'll buy my own (or just make a regular donation), but I'd really like to buy some podfic for this foundation.

Date: 2012-02-04 09:20 pm (UTC)Have you done charity auctions before? What was your experience? Good? Bad? or just rather mediocre?
In the past, I had a couple that when fantastic and a few that weren't really all that fun.

Date: 2012-02-04 11:21 pm (UTC)I just had a 'winner' who was very specific about what they wanted and didn't really leave me room for an alternative. It just felt like a chore at that point. LOL! As a winning bidder I've had times when nothing ever came of my 'win', but it's for charity and I really don't mind that so much. It's the thought that counts or something along those lines.
In one auction there was someone who always bid on things and requested that the material made not be shared. I wasn't involved b/c they didn't bid win anything I was offering, but I that the premise was a bit odd and not really in the spirit of fandom, IMO. I mean, wanting a graphic with your name on it is sort of implicit that others aren't going to use it, but a vid? a mood theme? I don't understand the point of hoarding it to ones self. And they were very outspoken about auctions not getting filled. So much that it was rather embarrassing.
ION, I'm really liking podfic!! Not that I've recorded or listened to much since the holidays, but it's so much fun. Vidding is still my biggest love lately, but I like this new shiny thing! :D I need to get better at going back and leaving comments after I've listened to something though.
