So, the problem with being away for a long time is knowing where to start once you get back.

I jumped back in with the intention of getting really active in Star Trek fandom, I immediately friended a bunch of cool new people on the [personal profile] wherenowoman friending meme (hi, new friends!), and then a combination of real life obligations and anxiety about oh-no-where-do-I-even-begin-and-I-still-haven't-replied-to-that-person's-comment-from-six-months-ago kinda made me stall out for a while.

So, uh...yeah.

Anyway! Here's where I've been fannishly lately! (No spoilers)

KISSES 3 a multifandom f/f podfic fest
Come join us for our 3rd annual podfic-centric celebration of the International Day of Femmeslash! Click here for more information or visit [community profile] audiofemme

This is our third year hosting KISSES Fest. It was pretty low-key the first year, but we got a great response last year and had a lot of fun with it. If you like femslash and you like podfic (or if maybe you only like one but you're intrigued by the other, hmm?), you should totally come contributed a short Peck on the Lips to our short podfic compliation, and/or a longer Makeout Session during open posting on International Day of Femslash (July 20th.) I'm doing both. Come join us!

Star Trek
I saw Into Darkness the day it opened. I adore Star Trek and I really, really love the reboot universe. Kirk/Spock and Uhura/Gaila are where it's at for me. That said, I had really mixed feelings about this film. It mostly didn't work for me. Don't get me wrong, I've already pre-ordered the DVD, and there were parts of it I liked a whole lot - I was just hoping for something...different. Something more. However, having mixed feelings about this particular film doesn't diminish my love of the franchise or this particular branch of the Star Trek multiverse, and I have no interest in harshing anyone else's squee. I might share my thoughts on this in more detail in another post (with spoiler warnings and cut tags).

Iron Man 3
Best blockbuster of the season so far. Tony Stark is not my favorite Avenger (Natasha Romanov and Bruce Banner share that title, thank you), but this movie did just about everything right for me. I'm so happy RDJ is reprising the role for the next two Avengers movies.

Orphan Black
This show is so good, I can't even. There's not a lot of fic for it yet, but I'm hoping that changes over the hiatus or once the second season gets underway. Does anyone know if there's an Orphan Black kink meme somewhere? If not, why not? Sexy clones with lots of action, intrigue, and angst. C'mon.

Hannibal
...is eating my brain. I may be a fannibal. I'm still finding my way with the fic - I don't like a lot of gore and I haven't found an approach to Will/Hannibal that works for me at all - but the women in this show? Kick ass. And people are writing fic about them. There is some excellent Freddie Lounds fic out there, and some great stuff for Beverly Katz and Alana Bloom, too. I'll have to do a rec post soon.

Supernatural
I was meh about S6 and positive-with-reservations about S7, but S8 killed. I know a lot of longtime fans have jumped ship in the last few seasons, but I'm so glad I hung on. The show isn't like it was in S2 and S3, and that's okay. In my opinion, the place it's at now shows real growth and development. I think it's tough to do that when a show only has two main characters, and they have to deal with a bigger and badder season arc every year, but I'm impressed with how SPN has managed that difficulty. Also, that second episode with Charlie Bradbury this season? Totally made me cry.

Generation Kill
I finally watched this with nickelhusband. Oh my god. A new world of podfic just opened to me, and it's amazing.

Teen Wolf
God, this show is fun. I mean, yes, this season is killing me with the feels, but I'm loving every second of it. I've started listening to podfic in this fandom, too, and it's fantastic. It makes me kind of jealous - a lot of Teen Wolf fic seems to have this very snappy, sharp, animated style to it, with lots of hyper!Stiles, and I just can't read that way. My voice just doesn't go there. :/

I started to write about Man Of Steel next, but I never expected to feel fannish about it in the first place and I don't have anything nice to say, so I just won't.

So far this year I've also watched all of In the FleshDeadwood and the first two seasons of Game of Thrones (but I've already been spoiled for the end of S3) and really enjoyed them all. I haven't made much podfic, but I have made a whole lot of podfic covers. I still don't really know what I'm doing, but I think I'm getting better. I'll post some of my favorites in the next couple of weeks.

Can you tell from this post that I'm underemployed right now? Though, to be fair, even when I was doing full time grad school with a part time job, I still watched an ungodly amount of television. I also read the entire Vorkosigan series in grad school. I don't know where the time came from, but I managed it.

Okay, that's enough for now. In the next few days I'll aim at posting some recs and some of my new podfic covers. Stay frosty, everyone.

that's a tight present
