nickelmountain: (sam's tongue)
It's been an eventful month.

Oh yes it has. )

Today is a podfic day for me. It's going to be miserably hot in my recording room with the (really loud) window unit shut off, but at least the construction across the street has finally stopped.

Oh, and my cat who I was worried about in my last post? She's doing fine. She's gained a bunch of weight back, and right now she's begging me to get off the computer and pay some attention to her. Which I'm going to do. Right now.

I came back from Wiscon with a monster head cold lurking in my system. It started with some muscle stiffness on Wednesday, escalated into sinus congestion on Thursday, and then yesterday it blossomed into total body exhaustion, aching muscles in my back and neck, and of course the requisite sore throat and snot. I woke up with a fever this morning, so I called off of work, which I hate doing. Of course this is also the weekend my in-laws are in town.

I feel like the walking dead. I have to wonder if I am, in fact, Patient Zero in the zombie apocalypse. It's not that far fetched - I walked down the hall from the living room to the bedroom twenty minutes ago, and realized that I was doing both the shuffle and the moan of the classic undead.

The upside? Instead of traipsing around Hyde Park today with my in-laws (which I was supposed to do after work), I'm lying in an air conditioned room with my cats watching episodes of SGA on Netflix. Not the worst way to start the zombie apocalypse, I suppose.

My brief flirtation with a panic attack aside, I had a fantastic time at [livejournal.com profile] wiscon . I roomed with [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat , who introduced me to gwynegga and [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur , among others. I attended several really interesting panels, went to the vid party, and sang all of BtVS "Once More, With Feeling" in a room full of other Buffy fans.

Some thoughts from Wiscon: )

Whether the revolution is immediate or incremental, it must above all be accessible. It must address both structural and cultural issues, and create a space for all people, including those in opposition. The revolution must be accessible if it hopes to be sustainable.

That's what I've been meditating on for the past few days at [livejournal.com profile] wiscon .

A belated happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] tsuki_no_bara , and happy birthday in advance to [livejournal.com profile] twasadark . Perhaps this is cheating, but my well wishes are sincere, and the volume of homework I've been dealing with (and will continue to deal with for the next two weeks) is seriously cramping my already limited LJ style. Anyway. [livejournal.com profile] tsuki_no_bara , I hope you had an excellent birthday. [livejournal.com profile] twasadark , I hope yours is everything you want it to be.

Happy Thanksgiving to my American flisties, and well wishes to Canadian (or any non-American) readers who already celebrated/don't celebrate. I'm grateful for my husband, our health, our cats, and the continued well-being of our endlessly frustrating families. The last 2-3 years have presented us with a number of serious challenges, and I didn't always know how to keep on keepin' on. But we've been lucky this year, and I'm grateful for all the good fortune in our lives. I'm also grateful for everyone I've met through fandom. I am so glad I came out of lurkdom and started participating. You all are amazing.

I have a couple of quick stories.

This one is kind of funny: )
This one is in the spirit of the season: )

Sigh. Nickelhusband is half-heartedly watching the Beyonce special on TV, waiting me to finish my (ahem) homework so we can enjoy the holiday evening together. We've already stuffed ourselves with field roast, root vegetables, and pie, and it's time to pop the top button of our pants and engage in the time-honored American tradition of reclining in a stupor before the gentle glow of the television screen.

that's a tight present
